Art as open conversation

Over the past 20 years, my body of contemporary work has developed as a conversation with my viewers. It’s an expression of my inner dialogue and experiences–using intuitive markings, linguistic imagery and movement to draw people in.

Once captivated, the details reveal hidden layers. The marks are frivolous but controlled, ardent yet contemplative. Splatters of ink reveal moments of genuine expression, inviting people to listen, feel and relate.

My process is both considered yet experimental. Starting with a blank surface, I let the ideas emerge via the fluidity of my materials and the way they interact on paper. Yet I’m drawn by the culture of slow artistry.

My creative process is hands on and punctuated with pauses. Removing the pressure to create volume over quality and allowing each piece to develop organically and at its own pace. Each mark is important and final. Like my work as an interior designer, I use texture and colour strategically. It’s a fine balance of form, function and meaning within the composition. The harmony between the negative space and monochromatic marks prompts viewers to ponder the vastness within, beyond the noise of their environments
